In an eagerly awaited clash Rustington threw away a three goal lead and the points in a game that should have been put to bed by half time.
The deadlock was broken in the twenty first minute after opening twenty minutes of good football from both sides. After clearing a Brading corner Rustington broke swiftly upfield, Sam Dowsett laid the ball out left to Adam Plummer who skipped inside and past the last defender and subsequently shot the into the top left hand corner. Within five minutes Blues went two up through a Nathan Stock strike. Blues were then handed a rather fortuitous penalty when the Brading keeper was adjudged to have stamped on Plummer following a corner. Ryan Harvey took advantage from the spot to put Blues three up.
A minute before half time Brading were awarded a free kick in a central position thirty yards out. A curling effort was heading towards the top corner only for keeper Daryll Rebbetts to palm the ball around the post for a corner. From the resulting corner the ball was loose in the Rustington area and a Brading striker stabbed the ball home to make it 3-1.
After being told to keep it tight for the first ten minutes Blues conceded the softest of soft goals when a harmless shot slipped through keeper Rebbetts hands and legs and into the net. Brading then began to dominate the midfield and control the game and scored a further two goals to take the lead and win the game.
