Last Saturday Rustington continued their defence of the League Cup with a well deserved 3-0 aet victory over Havant & Waterlooville.
Blues created the best chances in the game with Ryan Harvey hitting the bar and Sam Dowsett a post together with a brilliant double save by the Havant keeper from a Dowsett header and the followed up shot from Adam Plummer.
The second half followed a similar pattern although Blues did manage to get the ball in the net on the hour but the effort was ruled out for an "alleged" offside.
Extra time began and after five minutes Blues eventually found the breakthrough that their play deserved when a ball from Plummer was switched out right to Ryan Harvey who unleashed a rasping shot into the roof of the net. Relief was felt all around. Havant began to push players forward in the second half and were caught twice on the break when firstly Dowsett got free down the left to square for Adam Plummer to side foot home and the three minutes later the same two combined with Plummer returning the favour for Dowsett to finally settle the tie.
Overall a pleasing performance from the Boys.
This weekend we do not have a fixture. but get back to League action the following Saturday 24th November when we again meet Havant in a league fixture away.
