Last Saturday the U16s took on bottom of the league Stubbington and with a nearly full squad a win should have routine however, things didn’t go quite to plan.
The first half was not good at all and we created few chances. Within the first 5 minutes Stubbington took the lead due to us not being awake and not getting out of the starting blocks. This was not a deserved lead but we didn’t deserve to score either.
We then began to stroke the ball around well as we know we can and scored an equaliser after 20 minutes and then 5 minutes before half time we took the lead with an embarrassing long punt up field from David Herbert which bounced over the goalkeepers head and into the back of the net.
At half time Ryan Harvey was replaced by Richard Kinyua and David Herbert was replaced by Jamie Wrigley. Within 5 minutes of the restart Stubbington equalised due to poor defending.
We still weren’t playing well but were dominating and with 3 minutes to go we took the lead with a well worked goal from Richard Kinyua. However, we could not hold on and conceded from a free kick in a wide position with just one minute to go.
Overall it was a disappointing performance and we will definitely need to improve immediately as we have two big games within the next fortnight.
